Collegiate Peaks Trail Run. 25 to 50 mile run East of town on old railroad grade and trails. There is over 3,500 feet elevation gain in each 25 mile loop. Limited to 300 runners.
May 10
Carin Mari and the Pony Express Concert. Western music favorites Carin Mari and the Pony Express will launch their latest CD, "Follow the Rail" with a concert at 6:30pm at the Heritage Museum, 506 East Main. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for BV heritage members and is free for children 16 and under. Tickets are available at the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce, 719-395-6612.

Paddle Fest. Join in on an action-packed weekend of fun and educational activities for whitewater enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Movies, live music, food and fun.

Buena Vista Bike Fest. Road rides of various distances including a centrury and metric century. Evening entertainment and food.

The First Annual Buena Vista (Whitewater) Pro Rodeo. A Pro Freestyle Competition will be followed by an evening party and awards ceremony. With snowpack in the Arkansas River drainage currently at 165%, the Buena Vista Pro Rodeo promises to be a freestyle event of the highest quality.
May 31
Alpine Orchestra Spring Concert. The 35 piece volunteer symphony, conducted by Dr. Farrell Coy, is in its 17th season. The "3 M" spring concert will feature works by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Mancini. The public is invited. There is no admission charge, but contributions are welcome.

BalloonaVista/Art Walk. Fourth annual balloon festival. Balloons fly at 6 am Saturday and Sunday with a "glow" at dusk Saturday.

FIBArk Whitewater Festival – First Boat in the Arkansas! River events, running events, bike race, parade, family activities, music and many more festivities. Salida.

Ride the Rockies! 2,500 cyclists arrive from Crested Butte over Cottonwood Pass on the annual Ride the Rockies tour. Entertainment in the park with beer garden.

Fourth of July Celebration! Old fashioned hometown celebration. Pancake breakfast 7am. Parade at 10:00 on East Main. Want to be in it? Just show up at the Courthouse at 9:30. KIDS--deocorate your pet or your bike and ride in the parade; you might when a small prize!! Kids games and entertainment in Forest Square park (outside the Chamber building) after the parade. Burgers and Hot Dogs sold by the Rotary Club, pie slices sold by Young at Heart---they sell out fast so buy one early. Fireworks at the rodeo grounds at dusk.

Art In The Park. Arts and crafts show in Buena Vista's McPhelemy Park by the lake.

Quilt Show. Quilts for show and sale are on display daily throughout the show. Buena Vista Community Center.

Mountain Mania Car Show. Antique, Classic and Street Rod Cars on show. Pancake breakfast at 7:00 am. Street Dance Friday night.

Collegiate Peaks Stampede Rodeo. Friday evening and Saturday evening performances. Western Parade Saturday morning at 10am on East Main after the pancake breakfast in Columbine Park (behind K's Dairy Delite).

Trailfest. Sponsored by the Continental Divide Trail Alliance an all day event with vendors, kids activities, food and entertainment. Join us for a day of world-class adventure and fun on the Continental Divide Trail during TrailFest 2008—a celebration of and benefit for the completion and protection of the 3,100 mile Continental Divide Trail.

August 7 - 9
Concert in the Park. At 7pm enjoy the Buena Vista Harmonizers who are sure to please folks of all ages with their crisp barbershop harmonies. In case of inclement weather, concerts will be moved indoors to the BV Heritage Museum on East Main Street but signs will be posted.
August 9 – 10
Gold Rush Days! Step back in time to the Colorado Gold Rush when Main Street in Buena Vista, Colorado reflects on their gold mining past. Try your hand at gold panning, watch gunfights, take a square dance lesson or listen to music from the past. Watch the Costume Parade. Included in the event are about 100 vendors which include food vendors, a beer garden, children's rides, craft booths and more--maybe even a mechanical bull. Other events of the weekend include a pancake breakfast, special showing of "Madams of Central Colorado", and a rock and gem show.
August 10
Contin-Tail Rock and Gem Show. A rock collector's paradise. More than 100 booths. Merchants from all over the country gather at the Rodeo Grounds in Buena Vista to sell, swap and show rocks, minerals and gems. Everything from mineral samples to sculptured art work to fine jewelry.

Historical Tour Raft Trip. Combine your favorite outdoor recreation activity with a little historical education! Costumed re-enactors will offer colorful stories of the area's history at several points along the Arkansas River during the Buena Vista Heritage Raft Trips on Sunday, Aug. 12. The tours, scheduled to leave from Wilderness Aware Rafting in Johnson Village every half hour from 11 a.m. to 2:30, are open to the public and last approximately two hours. Admission is $45 for adults, $35 for children. Buena Vista Heritage members receive a 10 percent discount. Tickets are available in advance at the Buena Vista Heritage Museum, 506 E. Main. No children under age 6 are allowed.
August 15 – 17
Collegiate Peaks Music Festival. This second annual festival features groups from Colorado. Held on East Main Street, Buena Vista. The kickoff is Friday at 6pm and there will be two stages on Saturday from 10am to 8pm. (Street dance that night) and Sunday from from 10am to 6pm. There are vendors and refreshments including a beer garden.
August 23
Buena Vista Canine Classic. Frisbee Dog and Dog Agility competitions. All events at the soccer fields at Riverside Park at the east end of Main Street.

King Boletus Mushroom Festival. If you love mushrooms you can learn which mushrooms are edible and which are poisonous, and how to cook them into scrumptious meals at this event.
September 3 – 7
Independence Film Festival. The Highest Film Festival in the World" will salute Elvis' body of work as a motion picture icon with screenings, surprise guests and a posthumous award. With an acting career spanning 13 years and 31 films, the IFFC is proud to pay special tribute to Elvis for the impact he had on the motion picture industry and movie audiences worldwide.
September 13
Applefest! The Historic Turner Farm will again open its gates to host the Apple Fest in Buena Vista on September 13th. Step back in time to the turn of the 20th century. Tour the farm of five old builidngs including the two story farm house. Great family fun with music, old time demonstrations, lunch, apple pie and more.
September 20
Autumn Color Run. Four races are offered at this event--half marathon, 5k, 10k or a fun walk or run. Enjoy the peak of the fall colors as you run into Buena Vista from the Cottonwood Pass area.

ATV Historical Color Tour. Bring your own ATV and ride various trails and visit historic areas in the midst of autumn's grand colors. Four days of riding, evening activities, and more.
